“Subliminal weight loss while you sleep!”
“Change your habits for good with subliminal weight loss!”
We’ve all seen the advertisements for subliminal weight loss products. There are a wide array of tapes, videos, and computer software on the market that promise to help you lose weight without making any conscious effort. These products suggest that subliminal messages can be used to alter your present eating and exercise habits, helping you lose weight without ever really thinking about it.
But do these products actually work? If you’ve thought about trying one of these products, it’s time to do a little research. Here’s what you need to know about subliminal weight loss products. Then you can make up your mind (your conscious mind, that is) to decide if these products are right for you.
What Is Subliminal Weight Loss?
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the term “subliminal” means, “existing or functioning below the threshold of consciousness.” In other words, a subliminal stimulus is one that is noticed by your subconscious but not by your conscious mind. In this sense, subliminal messages are generally silent or invisible on a conscious level.A subliminal weight loss product will include (supposedly) a number of messages that are designed to help you lose weight. You will not actually be able to hear these messages consciously, but your subconscious mind will hear them and respond to them accordingly.
The premise behind subliminal weight loss products is that your subconscious mind controls almost all of your thoughts and actions. Your subconscious is where memories are stored and bodily processes are monitored. Therefore, if you can convince your subconscious mind that you need to lose weight or exercise more, it will help your appetite or burn fat without any effort on your part.
How Do I Use Subliminal Weight Loss Products?
Most subliminal weight loss products utilize some kind of relaxation or hypnosis therapy. For example, a subliminal audio tape will probably include relaxing music that you can hear as well as subliminal audio messages that you will not be able to consciously hear. A subliminal video tape will include music and scenes that help you relax as well as subliminal messages. Subliminal weight loss messages may include phrases such as the following:
“Eat only until you are full.”
“Cut back on sweets and fats.”
“Exercise is fun.”
Proponents of subliminal weight loss products suggest that you use these products as a background for any of your normal activities. Of course, the more often you play the tapes or watch the movies, the more effective they are supposed to be.
Does Subliminal Weight Loss Work?
They sound too good to be true. So guess what? They probably are. Subliminal weight loss products promise to help you lose weight quickly and easily without ever really having to think about it. But it’s unlikely that any of these products will actually work.
Consider whether or not these products will be practical for you. Given your hectic life style, is it likely that you will sit down to listen to a tape or watch a movie that contains messages that you cannot even hear?
And even if you do find time to listen to the audio tapes or watch the movies, can you be sure that they actually include appropriate subliminal messages or that your brain will respond to these messages by prompting you to exercise or turn down dessert? It certainly may not hurt to try it, but why waste your money?
